Hazard survey, edge protection and 1,100 m of lifeline completed across four buildings in 10 weeks.
The challenge
Four process buildings had open edges, non-compliant roof hatches and no rescue capability for maintenance crews. Simultaneous operations meant access routes crossed live areas, scaffolding from other contractors crowded the same roofs, and every drilled fixing needed a permit and gas test.
Our approach
We ran a hazard survey with the client’s HSE team first, then designed safe access — walkways, guardrails, hatch restraints and lifelines — as one coordinated layout rather than four separate ones. Edge protection went up before any other roof work, permits were grouped so drilling happened in single mobilisations, and rescue plans were written per building and rehearsed with the client’s own rescue team. Crews carried inspection tags and equipment registers throughout.
The result
Ten weeks, four buildings, 1,100 m of lifeline, 340 m of guardrail and 11 compliant hatches handed over with zero lost-time incidents across 9,800 safe man-hours — and the client’s rescue team certified on our plans before the first handover.
