Dry-dock edge protection and 780 m of dockside lifeline completed in nine weeks.
The challenge
A shipbuilding yard needed permanent fall protection on dry-dock edges, dockside walkways and hull-access towers while ships were in build. Mobile equipment crossed the work area, tide and wind windows limited access to the dock edge, and crews had to work around scaffolding standing against hulls.
Our approach
We split the works into dock-side and dry-dock fronts so exclusion zones never overlapped with mobile equipment routes. Retractable edge barriers and guardrail runs went in first to make the edge safe, then horizontal lifelines on the dockside walkway and vertical lifelines on the access towers, all in marine-grade fixings. Shifts were timed to the yard’s wind window with a named permit issuer on every shift.
The result
Nine weeks with zero lost-time incidents across 9,600 safe man-hours, 780 m of lifeline and 410 m of guardrail certified, and the yard’s own safety statistics improved through the contract period — the client cited it in their annual HSE report.
Scope delivered
