Permanent roof-edge system and certified facade-access anchors for an 18-storey tower in five weeks.
The challenge
An 18-storey office tower in Riyadh needed compliant roof-edge protection and certified anchor points for facade cleaning cradles. The BMU specification depended on anchor positions that had never been certified, roof plant left almost no free edge, and facade works had to start on the lower floors while the roof was still being upgraded.
Our approach
We surveyed the roof against the BMU manufacturer’s loads, reconfigured 9 anchor positions around plant, and installed guardrail runs plus permanent walkway protection on the busy edges. Anchor points were proof-loaded and certified for the cradle duty, rescue anchors and davit arm provisions were included in the same package, and crews roped down from the roof with the facade contractor’s cradle parked below them as a secondary line.
The result
Five weeks from survey to certification: 128 m of guardrail, 14 certified anchors and a documented rescue plan, zero lost-time incidents across 4,900 safe man-hours, and facade works started on programme with the roof system already certified.
