What fabricated posts cover

A fabricated post is a member made for one job: a welded box or H-section cut to height, fitted with the base plate, stiffeners and connections the load requires, then finished and marked for install. The scope covers canopy and gate posts, racking uprights, equipment supports and the odd bracket that does not exist in any catalogue.

Because these posts often sit outside the main frame — at boundaries, yards and process areas — they must survive weather, impact and load cycles with minimal maintenance, which is why section size and finish are set by the design rather than by habit.

Posts are detailed as small structures in their own right: section or tube size, wall thickness, base plate dimensions, anchor count and stiffener layout are all set by the loads and the fixing conditions. Where several posts carry one frame — a canopy line, a gate assembly — they are fabricated as a set so heights, bolt patterns and connection faces match across the run. Brackets and frames no catalogue covers are drawn, approved and made alongside the posts in the same batch.

Built from your loads, not a catalogue

We start from the load, height and fixing condition: what the post carries, how deep the foundation is, and whether it is bolted to concrete or welded to steel. From that we detail the section, base plate thickness, anchor pattern and stiffening.

Where the post supports equipment or services, bolt positions and clearances are coordinated with the installer before fabrication, so nothing is drilled on site.

Foundations are part of the calculation, not an afterthought: embed length, anchor setting detail and the concrete capacity are checked against the loads the post will actually see, including wind on canopies and impact at gate lines. Where the post is welded to existing steel, the existing member is assessed for capacity and the connection detailed to match. We supply the fixing schedule with the post so the civil crew pours and sets to the same plan the steel was cut for.

Finish for the environment

Outdoor and coastal exposure asks for hot-dip galvanising; covered industrial interiors usually take primer and paint. The specification decides, and we apply it before delivery rather than touching up after installation.

Every post is match-marked to its position, with the anchor pattern drawn on the delivery note — which keeps setting-out crews fast and avoids the wrong post in the wrong hole.

Galvanising is done to the specified coating class and checked for coverage and thickness, with any transit damage repaired using the matching system rather than a splash of paint from the site store. Where a post will be welded to after coating, the coated area is masked so the repair is local and controlled. Parts that must stay bare for a later connection are labelled on the bundle, and touch-up happens before the post goes in the ground, not years after.

Delivered and installed

Posts are delivered in the sequence your site programme needs: boundary first, yard next, equipment supports when the machines arrive. Installation, drilling and fixing can be added to the same order.

Installation can include drilling and fixing into existing concrete, setting posts to template and level, and grouting under the base plate before the load arrives. Where posts must line up with existing steel or equipment, they are set out from survey points rather than the edge of the slab, and the diagonal across a run is checked before the grout cures. The same crew can then continue into the secondary steel or fall protection that connects to them.

For the frames these posts connect to, pair the order with secondary steel works. Send loads and heights and we will price the batch within 48 hours.
